This is the Thanks They Get? Iraq War Vets Arrested at The Pentagon
Four veterans of the Iraq War and a supporter were arrested at the Pentagon on Sept. 9.
The charge?
They placed flyers outlining the dangers of the depleted uranium warheads that are used by the US military in the Pentagon chapel.
Depleted uranium has been linked to the mysterious disease known as “Gulf War Syndrome” that affects thousands of veterans of the so-called “first Gulf War” (the war never really stopped).
“Just over 7000 veterans were wounded in the first Gulf War, but over 500,000 are now on disability,” because of depleted uranium according to Iraq Veterans Against the War. It has also been linked to birth defects in Iraqi children and otherwise unexplained diseases in veterans of the current Iraq War. It is an illegal weapon, banned by the United Nations, but the United States has used it (along with other banned weapons such as napalm and white phosphorous) in Bosnia and continues to use it in Iraq.
These men risked their lives for their country in Iraq, and when they get home they are arrested by their government for handing out educational material that will help save the lives of other soldiers? Ain’t that America.
