If the majority of white people voted to end affimative action because they were truly interested in equality, I could understand. The truth is, most whites voted to end affirmative action because they thought it was a program that didn't benefit them in any way. If the trend of declining white enrollment at top universities continues, we may see the re-emergence of affirmative action. They will basically use the same defense that AA advocates use now. They will argue the need for diversity. They will plead the need to help disadvantaged groups. Only this time, it will be more inclusive of whites. If this new form of AA comes up on the ballot, no one will remember Jennifer Gratz and Ward Connerly.

No matter how you feel about AA, one thing is apparent. American kids, no matter what race you are, need to put down the video games and the cell phones and pick up a book.

This article seems to be striking a chord among pro and anti-Affirmative Action advocates.

From Reformed Leftist (http://reformedleftist.blogspot.com)

"Chancellor Birgeneau says he finds the low proportion of blacks and Hispanics appalling [after elimination of AA there], and two years into his tenure, he has not found a remedy." How about black students in high school adopting the academic attitude of their Asian counterparts?

Hey, you Affirmative Action proponents: In the name of achieving "diversity", do you advocate lowering standards for whites *and* blacks, and increasing standards for Asians, to manipulate these figures to match state demographics? WHY NOT?
